I’ve loved cars since I was a little kid, and I discovered racing when I moved to Indiana. It started with a 5th grade field trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. My first day at Indy was the day Janet Guthrie became the first female qualifier for the ‘500’ and I attended the race for the first time in 1978 (that’s me in the picture!).
I was fortunate enough to cover Indy car racing for 25 years for major media outlets including National Speed Sport News and ESPN, and that beat took me around the world. I always hated being called ‘Oreo,’ but Bruce McCaw made it stick during my two-year stint with PacWest Racing, and now I embrace such an obvious nickname. In 2001, I drove to every race I covered on this continent, from Monterrey, Mexico, to Vancouver, British Columbia. I’d almost always rather drive than fly.
Now I’m predominantly working on book projects, including the recently published “Time Flies: The History of PacWest Racing,” and an upcoming history of Indy car racing since World War II. I have strong views about racing, rock and roll music, and simple comfort foot, and I’m not afraid to share them. Please join me for the ride!
